Data sent to the wrong person or exposed: incident response playbook
Use it when: Personal or confidential data was emailed to the wrong recipient, shared publicly, or left open (for example a public storage link).
First 15 minutes
- Ask the recipient to delete it and confirm in writing.
- Remove the public link or change the sharing setting.
- Record exactly what data, whose, how many records and for how long it was exposed.
- Tell legal and privacy straight away: notification deadlines can be short.
